Sharon Hathaway Art Work

New Jersey Artist Sharon Hathaway is passionate about the American landscape. She gathers subject matter for her detailed beautiful paintings on walks along the Jersey Shore and Bay Shore, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and Tennessee, and the quiet lake shores and open fields of the Mid West. She drags her two children and sometimes the dog along on most of these excursions.

“I grew up in Northern Minnesota where I spent a lot of time in the woods and on the water. I say on the water because my Dad was an avid fisherman who would stay out in the boat for hours regardless of his children’s wining, sighing, and squirming. God bless him, I can paint water and reflections because of long hours of study.” “My goal in painting landscapes is to invite the viewer into the painting. I want to give you a break from your busy life allowing you to enjoy the simple beauty around us. I invite you to click through my artwork and take a walk with me.”

Sharon earned a BA in Studio Art from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN in 1982. She has taught art to adults and children in MN and NJ. Sharon’s work was accepted into the highly competitive Northern Lights Juried Art Shows in White Bear Lake, MN in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1994, and she won the Award of Excellence in 1996. She was represented by Art Resources Gallery in St. Paul, MN. Sales and interest in Sharon’s work has been enormous since she began exhibiting at Beacon Fine Arts Gallery in 2005. In 2010, she completed a large commission of the “Seven Sacraments” for the Church of St. Catherine’s in North Middletown, NJ. She illustrated the book Hauling Water; Reflections on Making a Home in the North Woods by Becca Brin Manlove published by Raven Productions, 2011.

Sharon’s other passions are her husband of almost 25 years and two children. She served on the Board of Limited Jurisdiction for Mother Teresa Regional School in Atlantic Highlands, NJ from 2006 to 2011. She will be teaching a painting class for MTRS’s Learning Academy in January and February of 2012.
