Hessam Abrishami

Hessam Abrishami Art Work

Born in the ancient center of the Persian Empire in the town of Shiraz, Iran in 1951 the roots of an enlightening heritage are deep within Hessam Abrishami. In 1975 Hessam left Iran to expand his knowledge and awareness of the world. He sought a formal art education, which took him to Italy, one of the historically great epicenters of art. He began his higher education in Pietro Vanucci, at the Accademia di Bella Arti, where he studied feverishly, honing his skill.

Over the next few years his work was exhibited widely through successful shows in one-man and group exhibitions in both Iran and Italy. In 1984 he made the seminal decision to emigrate, recognizing that the center of the art world had shifted to the United States. Over the next two decades, Hessam's art would become adoed and widely collected. There was a significant transition from the modest beginnings of exhibiting his art in small festivals and fairs, to major one-man shows across the nation. However, today Hessam is widely known as one of the world's greatest living artists, achieved through hard work and extreme dedication to his craft.

Hessam's process is intuitive by nature. He approaches a canvas with no direct idea of the composition, palette or artistic fundamentals. He comes from a place in his heart, a place of emotion wherein a feeling is expressed. He starts with a single stroke of color applied to the canvas. He stays within the emotion he desires to share, holding that feeling in his heart. As he applies the colors that best express those feelings the form of the work begins to emerge. Figures come to life, places are created, and a painting is completed. It is istantly recognizable that Hessam is now generally a very content and happy person and we can look to his vast body of work for evidence of his full and enriched life. While an image at first glance is lover or celebration, there is an underlying feeling present that the emotions expressed are keenly necessary.

The sculpture of Hessam Abrishami is an extension of his artistic empire. The process in which he begins is very similar to that of his painting. In soft earth tones, new images emerge, revealing faces, bodies and feelings.

All those who have chosen to engage in collecting, following and supporting Hessam have become part of his history. As Hessam paints, a symphony of familiar images are formed that express things known, believed or simply felt, and above all that inspire Expressions of Love.
